Medical Disclaimer

Last Updated: June 22, 2026

This Medical Disclaimer explains the important health and safety limits of Sugar Sense, an application and set of companion features published by Retarget OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (VAT number EE102572290), with its registered office at Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Estonia (“Retarget OÜ,” “we,” “us,” “our,” or “Sugar Sense”).

Please read this page carefully before you use Sugar Sense. By using the app, its Apple Watch app, widgets, Live Activity, website, or any related feature (together, the “Services”), you confirm that you understand and accept the limits described here. This Medical Disclaimer should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and End User License Agreement.

The one thing to remember. Sugar Sense is a supplemental information tool. It is not a medical device, it does not give medical advice, and it must never be your only way of seeing your glucose or detecting a low or a high. Always keep using your own CGM reader or receiver and its built-in alarms. If you feel unwell or suspect a severe low or high, treat it and, in an emergency, call your local emergency number (such as 112 or 911). Do not wait for the app.

SUMMARY

  • Sugar Sense is not a medical device and is not certified, cleared, or approved as one.
  • It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and it is not a substitute for professional medical care.
  • It is intentionally dose-free: it never tells you how much insulin to take or what to eat, and it must not be used to make dosing or treatment decisions.
  • Glucose data, trends, and alerts come from third-party services, the internet, and Apple’s push system, and may be delayed, inaccurate, incomplete, or missing.
  • Alerts, predictive warnings, caregiver sharing, and the emergency-call feature are best-effort and not guaranteed. Never rely on them as your only safeguard.
  • You are responsible for your own diabetes management decisions, made together with your healthcare professionals.

NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE

Sugar Sense is a general wellness and information companion for people who already use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). It is not a medical device within the meaning of the EU Medical Device Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/745), the United States Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, or any equivalent law, and it has not been certified, cleared, registered, or approved by any regulatory authority as a medical device. Sugar Sense does not measure your glucose itself. It displays and reorganizes readings that your own CGM system produces.

NOT MEDICAL ADVICE

The content shown in Sugar Sense, including glucose values, trend arrows, charts, Time in Range, statistics, deterministic patterns, AI insights, food-carb estimates, articles, and any other information, is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not medical advice and does not create a doctor-patient relationship.

Always seek the advice of your physician, diabetes care team, or another qualified healthcare professional with any questions about your health, your CGM, your medication, or your diabetes management plan. Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you saw in Sugar Sense.

NO DOSING OR TREATMENT DECISIONS

Sugar Sense is deliberately designed to be dose-free. It will never recommend an insulin dose, a bolus or basal amount, a carbohydrate ratio, a correction factor, or any specific treatment. Any food-carb estimate is shown as an approximate range for awareness only, not as a dosing instruction.

Do not use Sugar Sense to decide how much insulin or medication to take, when to take it, what or how much to eat, or how to treat a low or a high. Make those decisions using your prescribed treatment plan, your own CGM or blood-glucose meter, and the guidance of your healthcare professionals. When in doubt, confirm a reading with a fingerstick blood-glucose test before acting.

A SUPPLEMENT, NOT A REPLACEMENT

Sugar Sense is a secondary, convenience view of data that originates with your CGM provider. It is not a replacement for, and must not be used in place of:

  • your CGM sensor, transmitter, and its official reader, receiver, or app;
  • the alarms and alerts built into your CGM system;
  • a blood-glucose meter and test strips for confirmation; or
  • the care, supervision, and instructions of your healthcare professionals.

Keep your primary CGM system active and within reach at all times. Sugar Sense adds visibility and convenience on top of it. It does not stand in for it.

DATA MAY BE DELAYED, INACCURATE, OR MISSING

Sugar Sense depends on systems that are outside our control, including Abbott LibreLinkUp, Dexcom Share, your CGM hardware, your internet connection, your mobile network, and Apple Push Notification service. Because of this, the information you see may be delayed, out of date, incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable.

Glucose readings are estimates produced by your CGM and can differ from your actual blood-glucose level, especially when glucose is changing quickly, during the sensor warm-up period, or near the start or end of a sensor’s life. Data older than a short interval is marked as stale and shown as “No Data” rather than as a current reading. A value or trend that looks reassuring may be old, and a gap in data does not mean your glucose is fine. Always confirm with your CGM’s own app and, where needed, a fingerstick test before you act.

ALERTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED

Sugar Sense can send configurable alerts, including low, high, urgent-low, urgent-high, rapid-change, missed-reading, and a predictive “heading low” warning. These alerts are a helpful extra layer of awareness, but they are best-effort and can be delayed, silenced, or missed for many reasons beyond our control, including:

  • your phone being off, asleep, in Silent, Do Not Disturb, a Focus mode, or Low Power Mode;
  • notification, sound, or volume settings on your iPhone or Apple Watch;
  • loss of internet, mobile, or Bluetooth connectivity;
  • delays or outages at your CGM provider or in Apple’s push system; or
  • the snooze settings you have chosen.

The predictive low warning is a forecast based on recent trends. It can be wrong, it can fire when no low occurs, and it can fail to fire before a real low. Do not treat any alert, or the absence of one, as a guarantee of your glucose level. Sugar Sense should never be the only thing standing between you and a dangerous low or high.

CARE CIRCLE AND FOLLOWERS

Care Circle lets people you choose, such as family members or caregivers, follow your glucose and receive copies of your alerts. This sharing is provided for support and peace of mind. It is best-effort and subject to all of the same delays and failures described above, plus the settings, connectivity, and availability of each follower’s own device.

Following someone in Care Circle is not a substitute for in-person care, direct supervision, or professional monitoring, and it does not create any duty of care. A follower may not see a reading or receive an alert in time to act. Caregivers should continue to check on the person they support directly, especially overnight and during illness, exercise, or other higher-risk situations.

EMERGENCY-CALL FEATURE

If you enable it, Sugar Sense offers an optional automated phone-call feature that can place a call on a confirmed low using a third-party provider (Twilio). This feature is a convenience and is best-effort only. It can fail or be delayed for reasons including connectivity, carrier issues, third-party outages, an unreachable or busy number, or device settings.

Do not rely on the emergency-call feature as your safety net. It does not contact emergency medical services, and it is not a medical-alert or personal-emergency-response system. In a medical emergency, you or someone near you should call your local emergency number (such as 112 or 911) directly.

AI FEATURES

Sugar Sense offers optional AI features, including an AI food-carb estimator and AI-generated insights. These are informational and dose-free. The food-carb estimator returns an approximate range, not a precise carbohydrate count, and AI insights describe possible patterns in your own data in plain language.

AI output can be incomplete or incorrect and should never be used for dosing or treatment decisions. Always apply your own judgment and your healthcare professional’s guidance, and confirm anything important independently.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

You are responsible for how you use Sugar Sense and for your own health and safety decisions. By using the Services you acknowledge that you understand their limits, that you will continue to use your primary CGM system and follow your prescribed care plan, and that you assume the risks of relying on a supplemental tool that can be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable.

Sugar Sense is intended for use by adults. Where it is used to help monitor a child or another person, a responsible adult remains fully responsible for that person’s care and supervision. Sugar Sense does not replace adult supervision of a child with diabetes.

NO GUARANTEE OF RESULTS

We do not guarantee any particular health outcome, level of accuracy, availability, or uptime. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, and our liability is limited as set out in our Terms of Service and End User License Agreement. Nothing in this disclaimer limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

We may update this Medical Disclaimer from time to time to reflect changes to the Services or to legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised disclaimer.
