Accessibility

Last Updated: June 29, 2026

At Retarget OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (VAT EE102572290), with its registered address at Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Estonia (“Retarget OÜ,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), we want Sugar Sense to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who rely on assistive technology. This page explains the accessibility features Sugar Sense supports today, the areas we are still improving, and how to reach us if you run into a barrier.

In short. Sugar Sense is built on Apple’s accessibility frameworks and supports Dark Mode, a glucose display that does not depend on color alone, Reduced Motion, and VoiceOver on Apple Watch and across the core screens on iPhone and iPad. We are actively expanding coverage, and we welcome your feedback.

OUR COMMITMENT

Accessibility is part of how we build Sugar Sense, not an afterthought. We design and test against Apple’s accessibility guidance for iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, and we use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as a reference for color, contrast, and clarity. Because Sugar Sense helps people see important glucose information at a glance, making that information clear and perceivable matters to us a great deal.

ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES

Sugar Sense currently supports the following accessibility features. The exact set of supported features for each device is also shown on the app’s App Store product page.

Dark Interface (Dark Mode)

Sugar Sense fully supports a dark color scheme across the app. You can choose Light, Dark, or Match System in the app’s settings, and your choice is applied everywhere, including charts and custom views. Apple Watch uses a dark interface throughout.

Not Reliant on Color Alone

Glucose status is never shown by color alone. Every reading is presented as a clear number, a directional trend arrow (for example falling, steady, or rising), and a text label such as “In Range,” “Low,” or “High.” On the glucose graph, your target range is shown with labeled threshold lines and position, not only color, and Time in Range is always given as a percentage with named labels. This means people who are color blind or have low vision can still read their glucose status.

Reduced Motion

If you turn on Reduce Motion in your device’s accessibility settings, Sugar Sense honors it. Animated effects, including chart animations, onboarding transitions, and the animated mascot, are reduced or turned off so the app stays calm and comfortable to use.

VoiceOver (Screen Reader)

Sugar Sense works with VoiceOver, Apple’s built-in screen reader. On Apple Watch, the glucose face, trend, status, and controls are fully spoken. On iPhone and iPad, the core screens, including the current glucose view, statistics, and the logbook, are labeled so VoiceOver can read your value, trend, status, and the time of the reading aloud. We are actively expanding VoiceOver coverage to every screen.

SUPPORT BY DEVICE

The accessibility features above apply across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. VoiceOver support is most complete on Apple Watch and on the core iPhone and iPad screens, and we are extending it throughout the app. Dark Mode, the color-independent glucose display, and Reduced Motion are supported on all three.

AREAS WE ARE STILL IMPROVING

We are honest about where we still have work to do. We are expanding support for larger and dynamic text sizes beyond the screens that already scale, broadening full VoiceOver coverage to every screen and to the detail of the glucose chart, and continuing to refine color contrast on secondary text. If any of these is important to you, please tell us, as your feedback helps us prioritize.

A NOTE ON SAFETY

Accessibility features change how you perceive and navigate Sugar Sense, but they do not change what the app is. Sugar Sense is a supplemental, dose-free companion app and is not a medical device. It must never be your only way of seeing your glucose or detecting a low or a high. Please read our Medical Disclaimer and always keep using your own CGM reader and its built-in alarms.

BUILT ON APPLE ACCESSIBILITY

Sugar Sense runs on Apple devices and builds on the accessibility features included in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. Many system-wide settings you already use, such as Bold Text, larger text where supported, color filters, and VoiceOver, carry into the app. You can manage these in the Accessibility section of your device’s Settings.

FEEDBACK AND CONTACT

We are always working to improve, and we want to hear from you. If you encounter an accessibility barrier in Sugar Sense, or if you need information in a different format, please contact us and tell us the device, the screen, and the assistive technology you were using, so we can help and fix the issue:

  • Accessibility and support: [email protected]
  • By mail: Retarget OÜ, Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Estonia

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback promptly and to resolve issues as quickly as we reasonably can.

CHANGES TO THIS STATEMENT

We may update this Accessibility Statement as the app evolves and as we add or improve features. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.
